Museos de Cusco

 If we talk about the Imperial city of Cusco we talk about a lot of culture and a lot of historical past, the city has several museums which represent the works of the pre-Inca, Inca, colonial and Republican times. Let’s discover one of the best museums in Cusco, it is worth mentioning that most of these museums are located in the center of the city. 


Inca Museum

This museum is run by the San Antonio Abad University of Cusco, formerly called the archaeological museum, this museum took part of the old colonial house that was built in the same Inca Palace contains a large collection of art of Andean and Inca cultures, we invite you to visit it. Hours of operation Monday to Friday 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Sundays are closed. Address: 154 Ataúd Street. 


Pre-Columbian Art Museum

This museum shows the best of Pre-Columbian Art. There are about 10 exhibition halls properly installed showing various exhibits in wood, gold, and silver shells and some bone samples we can see pre-Inca cultures such as the Mochica, Chimu, Huari, and Nazca cultures and of course the Inca Culture. Hours of operation 7AM to 10PM. It is located at Plaza Nazarenas 231.  

Museum of Religious Art

 Museum currently located in a former Inca Palace is located on Hatunrumiyoc Street (Stone of 12 angles) in this museum there is a large collection of paintings of religious art of the colonial era has a roof based on Cedar the decorations are of Moorish style and have windows with a glass of the colonial era. Opening hours are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily. It is located at Herrajes 38 and Hatunrumiyoc Street. 

Regional Historical Museum 

This museum is located in what was the house of the famous chronicler Inca Garcilaso de la Vega shows an immense complete collection of archaeological pieces from the Inca era as well as the pre-Inca era, there is a large collection of paintings from the colonial era as well as from the Republican era and the contemporary era in view that it was the house of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega and also shows the legacy of this great character. Hours of operation: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is located on Heladeros Street a few steps from the Plaza de Armas. 

Coricancha Site Museum

 Here are shown exhibition halls of Ancestral Andean historical art. There are 5 rooms in total samples of Inca Inca art and most of his works are metal objects, stone pieces, ceramics, sculptures, textiles, musical instruments and paintings that were found in this same area when the excavations were made in the Inca temple of Coricancha, we invite you to visit it. Opening hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays there is no attention. Located in the same Avenida Sol in the center of Cusco.

The Museum of Contemporary Art 

This museum is located in the same Municipal Palace in the center of the city. It has two exhibition halls that are permanently open and one hall is temporarily open, all of them always showing contemporary art. There are more than 320 pieces of famous local, national and international artists. Hours of operation 9 a.m. to 6 pm. On Sundays there is no attention is located in Portales Espinar 270. 


The Museum of Popular Art

 It is the Museum of the American Institute of art this exhibits the best in work of Cusquenian Popular Art almost all the pieces are acquired in the fair of the Santurantikuy on June 24 during the feast of Christmas. MACHUPICCHU Museum

This museum is also known as Manuel Chavez Ballon is at the foot of the same Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Here you can see exhibitions and photographs of the excavations carried out in Machu Picchu also archaeological remains and nearby there is a Botanical Garden that has native plants of the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Opening hours 10 a.m – 5am. It is located on the Ruins Bridge at the foot of the citadel. 


Concha House Museum

Museum of Santa Catalina
