The first day of our tour will begin with the departure from Uyuni, where we will explore the Train Cemetery, a place full of history. Then, we will visit the village of Colchani to meet the local artisans and their salt creations. We will continue to the Salt Hotel and venture into the Salar de Uyuni, where we will enjoy its vast white desert and have fun playing with the perspective. The day will end with a beautiful sunset.
On the second day, we will visit the village of Tomabe to enjoy the hot springs, then head to the stunning Crystal Lagoons. After a delicious lunch, we will return to Uyuni, closing this unforgettable adventure.
Adventure among ancient trains, salt crafts, and landscapes that defy perspective
Our adventure begins at 10:30 AM with departure from our office in Uyuni. If you arrive early from La Paz, we can pick you up and recommend a good place for breakfast before we depart.
The first stop is the Train Graveyard, a place full of history where you’ll see locomotives and abandoned train cars from the 80s, when the railroad was key to the transportation of minerals in Bolivia. This site, with its nostalgic air and rusty structures, is perfect for capturing stunning photos.
We then continue to the village of Colchani, where you’ll meet local artisans who work with salt to create unique souvenirs like lamps, sculptures, and textiles. Here you can buy affordable souvenirs while observing the handmade process of salt production.
Next, we’ll visit the Plaza de las Banderas, a colorful spot with more than 100 flags from different countries and the iconic Rally Dakar monument, which once passed through this region. This is a great place to feel the international connection of travelers who have left their mark on the salt flat.
Our next stop is the Salt Hotel, the first hotel built entirely with salt blocks. It’s a fascinating place where you’ll learn about its unique architecture and the story behind its construction, a reflection of the creativity and adaptation of the local people to this extreme environment.
Before heading into the heart of the salt flat, we’ll take a break to enjoy a lunch with a delicious local menu. Afterward, we head to the center of the Salar de Uyuni, where you can take spectacular photos with optical effects and play with perspective. If you visit during the rainy season, you’ll witness the incredible mirror effect, where the sky and earth seem to merge into an infinite reflection.
To end the day, we’ll experience a magical sunset over the salt flat. The colors of the sky tint the landscape with golden and pink hues, creating a dreamlike scene you’ll never forget.
Finally, we return to Uyuni to rest in a comfortable accommodation, recharge our energy, and prepare for another day full of exploration and adventure.
Hot Springs: Relaxation in warm waters, highland culture, and unique Andean landscapes
We begin the day with a nutritious breakfast, perfect for replenishing energy after a day full of adventure in the Salar de Uyuni. From early on, we get ready to explore new, stunning landscapes on this journey across the Bolivian highlands.
Our first stop will be the village of Tomabe, a charming spot where we can visit its colonial church, a picturesque structure that has withstood the passage of time and stands as a witness to the local history. Here, we’ll also have the chance to learn more about the culture and customs of the region’s inhabitants.
We’ll continue our route to the Hot Springs, a true oasis in the middle of the highlands. These mineral-rich thermal waters are beneficial for the skin and blood circulation, making them the perfect place to relax and relieve the fatigue of the journey. Immersing in these warm waters, surrounded by mountains and a vast sky, is one of those experiences that renew the body and mind.
Next, we’ll head to the Crystal Clear Lagoons, a collection of natural water mirrors that reflect the sky and Andean landscape in a spectacular way.
